Girod indicators are as nice as it gets, every bit the equal of an Interapid. This one works perfectly except has a badly damaged crystal. Its a simple repair, although potentially needing some special tools
The crystal and bezel on the Girod is a friction fit and just pry’s off. It took a fair bit of force and I was somewhat concerned about something giving way. Eventually the bezel popped off and all was well
The first step is to measure a order a new crystal. These are small dollars and are purchased online
The crystal arrives. These are acrylic and their slight flexibility is relied upon for the installation.
The assembly is very basic. The crystal goes into the bezel followed by a spacer
A crystal press may be needed.
The bottom die is concave, more so than the crystal so that bezel touches it not the crystal. The top die is felt covered and pressess on the middle portion of the crystal. The result is with the bezel support and the centre of the crystal being pressed on, the crystal distorts slightly allowing it to be pressed into position
